Maoist politburo meet concludes without deliberations

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, July 11: UCPN (Maoist) will hold discussions on political paper of the party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the central committee (CC) meeting starting Thursday.

The political paper suggests the party´s future course based on Dahal´s analysis of the current political situation. The politburo meeting called for Wednesday concluded without holding any discussions on the political document.

"No discussion took place today [Wednesday] as members were busy studying the document. The deliberations over the chairman´s proposal will take place tomorrow at the CC," party´s standing committee member Girirajmani Pokharel told Republica.

According to a politburo member, those who attended the politburo meeting Wednesday were allowed to read the paper inside the party´s head office at Paris Danda but were asked not to take the documents outside the office.

The politburo members were prohibited from taking the documents out of the party office to prevent any leakage of information in the document outside the party rank and file.

The party plans to hold extensive discussions over the chairman´s proposal at its five-day plenum scheduled to start from July 16.

"The major event is the plenum and the politburo and the CC meetings are part of the preparations for that," said Pokharel.

According to UCPN (Maoist) leaders, Dahal´s political paper outlines measures to thwart factionalism in any form within the party.

Stating that allowing the party´s erstwhile Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya to run a dissident ideological group within the party was a mistake, Dahal has proposed to end the practice of running various intra-party groups. The Baidya faction split from the UCPN (Maoist) last month to form a new party--CPN-Maoist.
