KATHMANDU, July 14: Bringing together a Nepal’s respected and recognized innovators, artists, entrepreneurs and social activists to present their ideas worth spreading; TEDx Kathmandu is inviting Nepal´s leading and promising innovators, artists and entrepreneurs to present their future vision of Nepal.
The event is being organized for the second time and it has been entitled Nepal 2030: Innovation, Change and Sustainability this year. It is scheduled to take place on July 28, 2012 in Kathmandu.
“We organized the first TEDx Kathmandu last year and the response was massive. We had nine speakers, and 100 plus people attending the event. We couldn’t do a live stream last year and people were disappointed but we are doing it this year,” says Nimesh Ghimire, organizer and licensee to TEDx Kathmandu.
The TED conference is a yearly gathering of extraordinary individuals passionate about the power of ideas. Thinkers and storytellers explain their passion to a captivated audience and all talks are recorded and made available online.
TEDTalks range in topic from philosophy of happiness to solutions to the global energy crisis to education reform and from music, poems and dance performances.
Four years ago, TED started TEDx, an independently organized, licensed program that brings people in communities together to share a TED-like experience. With the advent of TEDx events, audiences around the world have been gathering for deep discussion about ideas.
“Some of Nepal’s leading figures like Rabindra Mishra, Editor of the BBC Nepali Service; Amrit Gurung of the band Nepathya; CNN Hero Pushpa Basnet; Sujeev Shakya , CEO, BEED; have already confirmed their participation at the event,” informed Ghimire.
He also added that he is in talks with other Dr Sanduk Ruit and other people.
TEDx Kathmandu was held last year on July 31, 2011. The event saw attendee applications from 200 people within five days. Ani Choying Dolma and Anil Chitrakar were some prominent figures who presented during the last session.
