KATHMANDU, July 14: Terai Television (TTV) and Gorkhapatra on Saturday advanced into the semifinal of the Fifth Direction Nepal Media Cup Football Tournament.
In the quarterfinals played at Buddhi Bikash Khel Mandal, TTV defeated Avenues Television 3-0 in a penalty shoot out after a goalless draw during the regulation time. In another quarterfinal, Gorkhapatra thrashed South Asian Sports Journalist Association Nepal (SASJAN) 4-1.
Purna Poudel scored two goals while Bidhur Deula and Majrul Haq scored a goal each for Gorkhapatra. Sanjeev Nakarmi scored the consolation for SASJAN. On Sunday, defending champion Image Channel faces Photo Journalist Club and Nepal 1 meets Nepal Television.
Hamal wins rapid chess
KATHMANDU: FIDE Master Manish Hamal lifted the title of Rajesh Prasad Shah Memorial Rapid Chess Tournament Title on Satuday. Hamal won all five rounds and earned five points in the tournament played under Swill League format at the Dasharath Stadium premises. Along with the title Hamal bagged cash prize of Rs 2500.
Former Nepal champion Badrilal Nepali finished second with four points after he lost a board against Hamal. Herakaji Maharjan finished third. Nepal and Maharjan received Rs 1500 and 1000 respectively. Purnaraj Khadka and Manoj Chitrakar secured fourth and fifth positions.
