KATHMANDU, July 16: Maoist Vice Chairmen Narayan Kaji Shreshtha has objected to a proposal by UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to end ideological groups in the party, a day after another Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai raised made similar objection.
"We can dissolve the factions, but we cannot dissolve the ideological groups immediately," CC member Krishna Bhujel quoted Shrestha as saying in Sunday´s central committee meeting.
Dahal´s put forward the proposal to eliminate ideological groups arguing the party split because of such groups.
There are five more ideological groups led by Bhattarai, Shrestha, Sonam Sathi, Amik Sherchan and Ram Karki in the Maoist party at present even after the Mohan Baidya faction formed a new party.
According to leaders close to Bhattarai and Shrestha, they fear Dahal will eliminate all the factions in the party if they agree on dissolving ideological groups, which will mean their existence in the party will vanish.
This is not the first time Dahal has proposed to terminate ideological groups. He first floated the proposal during a meeting of the leaders close to him, Bhattarai and Shrestha at Hotel Summit before the part´s split last month.
Speaking in the meeting on Sunday, politburo member Karki claimed that the ideological groups in the party emerge because of discrimination.
"The groups will be in the party until discriminations exists. The victims will share their sorrows which will convert into groups," CC member Bhujel quoted Karki as saying.
Karki further argued that ideological groups will automatically vanish if discrimination is addressed.
