  College Ambassadors 2012: Calling all talented students

KATHMANDU, July 16: Talented and enthusiastic young students have something to look forward to.

Organized by Green Arts Media Pvt. Ltd, it held its first audition for their College Ambassador 2012 appointments on Saturday, July 14 at Babar Mahal.

More than 50 students between 16 to 22 years of age from colleges in the Kathmandu Valley participated in the contest. The audition selected 22 aspirants.

The judges at the audition were Bhima Pradhan, manager at The Himalayan Times; Rojin Shakya, anchor, news reader and choreographer at Image Channel; Nirnaya Shrestha, rap singer; VJ/RJ and social worker Bimina Ranjit; model Suraj Giri, junior subeditor, presenter and program producer at Kantipur Television; Presca Udas, VJ and program producer at Himalayan Television; Pratul JB Rana, College Ambassador 2010/11; and Yukti Basnet, social worker and Deputy Secretary of Lions Club International.



The next audition will be held on July 27, after which the training will commence. A total of 40 contestants will be selected from the auditions, of whom 20 will be male and 20 female. Contestants will be chosen for their knowledge about the present scenario of the country as well as their personality and intelligence.

The selected contestants will be trained for 20 days by different personalities from various fields such as cinema, politics, business, fashion and media.

The purpose of the training is to groom the contestants for the main event and to help them polish their skills.

Anila Shrestha, Program Director at Green Art, said, “We’re hoping the title holders will be people who will care about the title they’re representing. We’re looking for talented individuals and we don’t put too much of an emphasis on how they look.”

Now in its 5th year, the objective behind organizing the contest is to utilize the power of the youth to promote peace and non-violence. The organizers believe in motivating the youth to the development of the nation.

One male and one female participant will be crowned The College Ambassador 2012 on September 1 at Rastriya Nach Ghar, Jamal. Among other prizes, the winners will also receive a cash prize each.
