Gandak canal accident victims' kin to get Rs.1.1 lakh as compensation

NAWALPARASI, July, 16: An agreement has been reached among representatives of political parties, entrepreneurs and Western Nepal Bus Entrepreneurs Committee in an all-party meeting held on Monday at the office of the Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi, Bir Bahadur Rai, to provide Rs. 110,000 to each family of the deceased, who lost their lives in a road accident that occurred in Gandak river canal at Tribeni in Nawalparasi district on Sunday.
The bus was carrying the Bolbam pilgrims (devotees of Lord Shiva on a pilgrimage).According to Rai, an agreement has been reached to provide immediately Rs. 35,000 to each family of the deceased for last rites and to provide Rs. 75,000, amount of insurance, lately.
Bodies of 39 people, who lost their lives in the accident, were recovered so far and 10 persons were also injured in the accident.
Identity of a person has not been ascertained. Of the deceased, three were Nepalis.The bodies have been handed over to their relatives, according to Superintendent of Police, Gyan Bikram Shah.
Bodies of 39 people were recovered. One infant, 10 women and 28 male died in the accident.
Police have continued the search operation today suspecting that some people might have been still missing. It has been difficult to carry out search operation as rains are continuing at the Gandak canal area.
