BOKSE, Udayapur, July 17: Katari town in Udayapur district is plunged into sorrow with the loss of many lives in the bus accident that took place at Krishnabhir, Dhading district on Monday morning.

Seventeen people, including a three-year-old girl, were killed when a passenger bus heading towards Kathmandu from here veered off the highway and fell 200 metres down into the Trishuli River. Scores of people on board the bus are still missing in the river. [

The sad news of the missing Bipin Koirala of Katari-4 who was traveling on the ill-fated bus has made many local youths sad. He was traveling to Kathmandu to perform the 45th death anniversary rituals of his mother. Some of his friends even rushed to the accident site in Dhading immediately after learning about the tragedy. Koirala, who is into the construction business, is very popular youth social worker.

Also missing after the accident are two people, uncle-nephew in relation, from Ladabhir VDC-1 from the neighbouring Sindhuli district. The nephew had passed this year´s School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination with distinction and the uncle was accompanying him to Kathmandu for his further education. But the dream remained unfulfilled.

As the families and relatives of those killed in the bus accident mourn their near and dear ones, neighbours and well-wishers have started visiting them to console them.

It is said the bus had departed for Kathmandu from here with six people on board but there were 52 people traveling on the bus at the time of the accident.

The bus veered off the highway in the wee hours on Monday amidst rain and foggy condition. The chances of finding the missing passengers alive are slim with the passage of time even as rescuers continue their search.
