  SPORTS BRIEFS: Peace Corps training begins

KATHMANDU, July 18: Member Secretary of National Sports Council Yuvaraj Lama on Wednesday inaugurated the second phase of Peace Corps training organized by Nepal Takewondo Association.

Altogether 100 players from Kathmandu are participating in the training. Four volunteers will provide training to the participants. Similar trainings will be conducted in Lalitpur and Bhaktapur later.

ICF congratulates Neupane

KATHMANDU: International Cannoning Federation (ICF) on Wednesday congratulated the newly-elected members of Nepal Rafting and Cannoning Association. Man Bahadur Neupane was unanimously elected as the president of the association.

President of ICF Csaba Szanto said in an e-mail that the international federation would always help Nepal in the development of the game.

Image, NTV in Media Cup final

KATHMANDU: Defending champion Image Channel and runner-up Nepal Television on Wednesday booked their places in the final of the Decorative Fifth Media Cup Football Tournament for the second straight time. In the first semifinal played at the Buddhi Bikash Khel Mandal ground, Image defeated Terai Television (TTV) 4-2 in penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Image converted all of its spot-kicks while two players of TTV failed to convert their penalties. In another semifinal, Nepal Television thrashed Gorkhapatra 5-0. The final of the tournament will be held at the Dasharath Stadium on Saturday.
