KATHMANDU, July 22: Students of Budhanilkantha School enjoyed a concert by The Whiffenpoofs of Yale University on July 20, 2012 at the school premises.

Organized by the US Embassy, the cappella group performed around nine songs ending the concert with their famous Whiffenpoof song. While this is not the first time that the group performed in Nepal, it is their first performance in a school.

“Previously, the group performed in hotels around the capital,” informed Meena Kaini, Information Specialist at the U.S. Embassy.

Cain Harrelson, Cultural Affairs Officer at the US Embassy, further added, “The U.S. Embassy wanted to bring the Whiffenpoofs to Buddhanilkantha School so that young Nepalis from diverse backgrounds could share in this cultural experience”.

The students and teachers enjoyed the concert with plenty of clapping at the end of each song. The Whiffenpoofs performed songs like Skinny Love, Midnight Train to Georgia and You are the Sunshine of My Life.

Pooja Pandey, a class 10 student, said, “I had a lot of fun. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, especially when they came down from the stage.”

Cindy Shrestha, also in class 10, shared, “This is the first time we had such a concert and it was such an enjoyable experience.”

One of the band members, Raphael Shapiro, said, “The reaction was fantastic. The audience was so vocal and seemed to appreciate us.” As they closed their performance and stepped down the stage, they were met with applauses and soon were crowded by the students, with questions and requests for autographs.
