  Concert held in US to help Nepali orphans, elderly

NEW JERSEY, USA, April 15: Friends of Nepal – New Jersey (FONNJ), a non-profit group, organized a sitar music concert on April 4 in Somerville, New Jersey coinciding with the New Nepali year 2066 for promoting Nepalese culture and heritage as well as raising funds for orphans and needy senior citizens back home.


Noted Nepali musicians Tara Bir Singh Tuladhar, a sitar maestro and founding member of Sur Sudha, and tabla player Rudra Lal Tamrakar enthralled the audience with their performance at the concert, the forum said in a statement. The event was held at PeopleCare Center, Bridgewater, New Jersey. Tuladhar and Tamrakar are currently touring different parts of the United States holding sitar concerts.

Also, American mountaineer Joe Yannuzi who conquered Mt Everest, the world’s highest peak in 2008, shared his experience of his successful ascent to Mt Everest on the occasion.

This event was sponsored by the Somerset County Cultural diversity Coalition, Adult Day Care Center, Gorkha Foundation and Rotary International District 7510.
