NC-UML to hold 'decisive' talks with UCPN (Maoist) Wednesday
(Updated) KATHMANDU, July 24: A joint meeting of major oppositions Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML held at the UML´s party headquarters in Balkhu on Tuesday has decided to hold ´decisive´ talks with UCPN (Maoist) on Wednesday to discuss and end the present political crisis.
“We will hold final talks with the Maoists and chalk out our future plans, either go for consensus or launch protests,” NC leader Ram Chandra Paudel said after the meeting.
The meeting comes two days after the deadline by the Election Commission (EC) for removing legal and constitutional difficulties in conducting the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls on November 22 has passed.
The government could clear legal and constitutional hurdles for fresh polls through ordinance. However, it has not done anything in that direction.
The meeting had taken place after the oppositions’ hope that the president would make a call for formation of a national consensus government was shattered, with the head of state showing no indication of taking an initiative for formation of new government, yet.
