DAMAK, July 28: The Bhutanese refugees living at different camps in Jhapa and Morang district have not been provided with vegetables for one and a half months after the contractors halted the veggie´s supply citing price hike.
The United Nations High-Level Commission for Refugees has given total responsibility to the Lutheran World Federation for foodstuffs supply to the refugees. But, the refugees have been left without vegetables for seven weeks after Gaurav Suppliers, a company specified to supply vegetables, did not comply with its commitments.
Secretary at Beldangi Camp Dhan Bir Subba said the refugees have not been provided vegetables for seven weeks. Earlier, each refugee was provided 250 gram of green vegetables in a week.
The Lutheran World Federation had made a contract paper with the contractors to supply seasonal vegetables as well.
However, the contractors said that the prices of vegetables have skyrocketed than the time of signing the contract paper. The refugees had rejected the vegetables alleging the suppliers of distributing rotten pumpkins.
Presently, 47,000 Bhutanese refugees are residing at Shanishchare and Beldangi camps.
