  Koshi eroding western embankment

REPUBLICA

RAJBIRAJ, July 28: Over a dozen villages in Saptari district are in danger of being hit by flooding after the Saptakoshi River started eroding portions of its western embankment.

The river, swollen by torrential monsoon rains in the recent days, has been eroding 10-15 meters every day, say locals of Saptari. They say acres of land where bananas and rice crops have been planted will be damaged if the river destroys the embankment.

However, Chief District Officer of Saptari Hariraj Panta says he was not aware of the erosion by the river.
