REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, July 31: Kathmandu Metropolitan City staffers halted work in all 35 ward offices including the central office on Tuesday protesting beating up of a municipal grabage truck driver at Sisdole in Nuwakot.

Surendra Chitrakar, a driver at the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) office, was beaten up while he was transporting garbage to the Sisdole dumping site in Nuwakot.

He was thrashed and injured by Prakash Balami, also a driver who comes from the same locality, at Sisdole following an affray over refusal to make way for each other´s vehicles.

Chitrakar´s assistant Maila Basnet was seriously injured. Both of them are being treated at Janamaitri Hospital in Balaju. According to Sadhuram Bhattarai, spokesperson of KMC, both the injured are out of danger.

The agitating staff have demanded stern action against the assailant, free medical treatment for the injured and security for them.
