Former PM Chand returns govt vehicle

REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, Aug 2: Former prime minister and senior leader of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Lokendra Bahadur Chand has returned the government vehicle provided to him as state facility.

Issuing a press statement on Thursday,  Chand informed handover of the vehicle to the government.  It also said the former prime minister took no other facilities, such as residence and security personnel, except for the vehicle.

Earlier, among others, former prime ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal had returned vehicles provided to them by the state as ex-executive heads.

Of late, there has been an increasing demand that such facilities not be provided to former VIPs as doing so would put unnecessary burden on the state coffers.
