Swimmer Shah betters personal timing at Olympics

REPUBLICA ONLINE

LONDON, Aug 2: Nepali swimmer Prashiddha Jang Shah has bettered his individual performance in men’s 50 m freestyle, timing *26.93 secs at the London Olympics.

His performance, however, was not enough to break the national record of 26.39 secs, set by Chitra Bahadur Gurung in Kathmandu in 2003.

Shah had won gold in the 50m freestyle in the recently concluded Pramod Memorial Cup 2012 and set a personal best timing of 27.04 secs.

A day earlier, Shreya Dhital had set a new national record in 100 meter freestyle swimming with a timing of 1 min and 10.80 secs. Her previous best was 1 min 10.82 secs, also a national record.

Shooter Sneha Rajya Laxmi Rana has already taken part in 10 meter air rifle on Saturday. Unable to break the national record, she came 54th among the 56 participants in the event.

Athlete Pramila Rijal is scheduled to participate in women´s 100 meter race on Friday, while athlete Tilak Ram Tharu will take part in men´s 100 meter race on Saturday. Altogether five players are representing Nepal at the London Olympics.
