Basnet-led group halts vehicular movement in Biratnagar

KHILANATH DHAKAL

BIRATNAGAR, Aug 2: Central Committee member of Youth Association Nepal (YAN) Parshuram Basnet-led cadres halted vehicular movement for around half an hour in Biratnagar on Thursday.

The protest was part of CPN-UML´s nationwide protest program against the present government.

Addressing the gathering Basnet challenged that ‘he could halt the nation if he wanted’ and warned East Regional police Chief DIG Surendra Bahadur Shah to rectify his mistakes.

Referring to Shah, Basnet said, “My party is not as corrupt as your association (Nepal Police) where six (former) chiefs have faced corruption charges.”

Though DIG Shah directed his security personnel to clear the obstruction, the latter turned mute spectators of the whole incident. Morang SP Niraj Bahadur Shahi reportedly ‘defied’ Shah’s order.
