Snake bite cases rise in east Nepal

REPUBLICA

ITAHARI, Aug 2: Four people have died of snake bite and 347 were treated in the past three and a half months in the eastern region.

According to the Eastern Divisional Headquarter of Nepal Army (NA), 347 people visited its treatment center seeking treatment for snake bite. The victims were aged between two to 69 years.

Records at NA´s community snake bite treatment center show that 186 people from Sunsari district alone were bitten by the snakes during the period. Likewise 136 people from Morang visited the center for treatment for snake bite.

Likewise, 17 people from Saptari, four from Udayapur, three from Dhankuta and one from Bhojpur were bitten by snakes. Three patients who were in critical condition and needed ventilators were referred to other hospitals, the army said.

The centre provides free treatment for snake bite. The centre said treatment will be difficult if the victims are bitten by cobra or krait.
