KATHMANDU, Aug 4: The organizers of Tenzing Hilllary Everest Marathon awarded reporters and photographers for their coverage of the race held annually for the last 10 years. At a function organized by Himalayan Expeditions, the organizer of the race, Dipesh Shrestha of Republica and Ram Gurung received the best photographer awards.

Each of them received received Rs 15,000 and certificates. Journalists Niranjan Rajbansi of Nepal Samacharpatra, Sharad Dhital of Kantipur and Nabin Khatiwada of Republica received the awards for the best reporters.

Each of them received Rs 10,000 along with certificates. The organizers also felicitated other reporters and photographers for their coverage of the race. The organizers also felicitated Gopal Prakash Bhattarai, former warden of Sagarmatha National Park, and Ram Chandra Kadel, the current warden, with Adventure Sports and Tourism Environment Award.

They received Rs 25,000 along with certificates. Chief Secretary Madhav Prasad Ghimire distributed the certificates and prizes.

Lama new Himalayan Sherpa coach

KATHMANDU: A division club Yeti Airlines Himalayan Sherpa has appointed Arjun Lama as its coach for two months. According to a press statement issued by the club, Lama will take the coaching job of the team until Ncell Cup Football Tournament to be held from September 12 to October 13 in the capital. Lama replaced former coach Nawal Gurung, a resident of England, after he left Nepal some two months ago.

Lama is the former president and coach of another top flight outfit Bouddha FC. Lama is also the former coach of Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club.

ANFA referee coaching kicks off

KATHMANDU: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA)´s referee coaching course for the central region kicked off Saturday at Lamosanghu, Sindhupalchowk. ANFA has been organizing referee coaching course in all the five regions of the country as part of its plan to produce qualified referees.

Altogether 25 trainees from eight districts of the central region have participated in the course. The coaching will be conducted by referee instructor and former FIFA referee Buddhi Bahadur Gurung. Meanwhile, ANFA Development Director Sanjiv Mishra spoke on the importance of the course during the inauguration ceremony.

Tennis players to train in Thailand

KATHMANDU: Eight tennis players have been selected for an eleven-day closed camp training in Bangkok, Thailand. The eight players were picked up following a recent selection round conducted at the Satdobato Tennis Complex. Top four players in boys´ and girls´ category were selected from among 11-14 year age group. Pranav Kayastha, Sakchyam Karki, Abhaya Gauchan and Samrakchyan Bhusan Bajracharya have been selected in the boys´ category while Bhibhuti Karki, Mayanka Rana, Bijisha Shrestha and Mahika Rana were selected in the girls´ category. The selected players will be trained by Thai coaches Paradon Srichapan and Tamrine Tana Sugarn. Srichpan was world number nine player while Sugarn was 20th seeded in their heydays.

Saipal into final

KATHMANDU: With three wins from as many matches, Saipal Academy has advanced to the final of the Second Ace Inter A Level College Basketball Tournament in the girls category on Saturday. In the last match of round robin league, Saipal defeated GEMS 28-19 with 14 points from Ritu Majhi. In the other match of girls´ category played at National Sports Council Covered Hall, Rupy´s International School defeated Host Ace College 14-12 and ended the hope for the finals. Kolsang Dolkar scored six points for the winning team. In the boys´ category, GEMS, Rato Bangala and Xavier International advanced to the quarterfinals. GEMS defeated Kings College 36-22 with 11 points from Mohit Shrestha. Ananda Gaucha´s six points guided Rato Bangala for a 27-12 victory over Angels´ College. In the last match of the day, Xavier International overcame Global College International 41-21 with 16 points from Suraj Khatri.

MYA provides players sports kits

KATHMANDU: Madhyapur Youth Association on Saturday provided sports kits to its players. Altogether 30 players who are enrolled with the club for the upcoming Ncell Knockout Football Tournament were handed over the sports kits by the All Nepal Football Association President Ganesh Thapa. Madhyapur had climbed to the A division from the B division league this year and this will be the club´s second tournament as A division club. At the function, the club also felicitated the 16 schools that had provided scholarship to the club´s players.
