  Three footballers injured, one dies in bus accident

KATHMANDU, Aug 7: A U-14 football player of ANFA Academy was killed and three others sustained injuries in a bus accident at Maheshkhola, Simle of Dhading district on Tuesday morning which left at least 11 others dead.

Footballer Ranjan Thapa from Pokhara was among the nine passengers who died on the spot while his team mate Sagar Pariyar picked up serious head injury. According to ANFA officials Milan Hitang and Samrat Blon are out of danger.

All four players were returning to ANFA Academy, Kathmandu from Butwal after sitting for the supplementary SLC examination. According Chief of Gajuri police office Inspector Hemanta Thapa, the bus skied off the road and plunged some 50 meters below into Mahesh Riverat at around four in the morning.
All three injured players were brought to the capital on Tuesday morning for further treatment and the body of Thapa was handed over to his parents after postmortem at the Gajuri Primary Health Center.

Pariyar from Syangja, is being kept under ventilator at the ICU ward of Annapurna Neuro Hospital, Maitighar. According to hospital sources, Pariyar has sustained serious brain injury and not regained consciousness. Neurologist Basanta Panta is looking after him. According to ANFA central member, Rabindra Joshi, there was no sign of improvement until Tuesday evening.

All four players were selected for the ANFA Academy hostel four years ago and three of them, except Blon trained at the Butwal Academy. Blon trained at Dharan Academy. But all of them had appeared for SLC examinations from Butwal.

Center defender Thapa and left back Pariyar were called up for the Satdobato ANFA Academy two months prior to AFC U- 14 Festival of Football held in Kathmandu in mid May earlier this year. Both of them were included in the playing list. Milan Hitang was called at Satdobato after the festival. Hitan is winger.

Meanwhile, Blon originally from Sidupalchowk, was returning to Kathmandu on his way home. Both Hitang and and Blon have sustained head injuries. Hitang is undergoing treatment at Star Hospital in Sanepa and Blon at Shahid Memorial Hospital in Kalanki.
