  SPORTS BRIEFS: Judo family supports judoka Roy

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: Judo coaches and players handed over Rs 32,810 for the treatment of judoka Neeraj Chandra Roy, who sustained injury four years ago during a training session. Roy´s left hand was fractured in the training incident and doctors had implanted steel plate in his hand.

According to judo chief coach Birendra Ranjit, Roy will undergo an operation on Saturday at Kathmandu Hospital, Tripureshwar to remove the steel plate. The financial assistance was collected from judokas, coaches and Nepal Judo Association officials.

Thapa, Lama pair win mixed doubles titles

KATHMANDU: Pradip Rokka and Sunita Lama´s pair of Prime College won the mixed doubles title of Third Krishnadhoj Memorial Invitational Valley-wide Inter-school Table Tennis Tournament on Wednesday. Prime´s team defeated Morgan´s Prajwal Shrestha and Eline Maharjan´s pair 11-8, 11-8, 3-11 in the straight sets. In the boy´s team event, Prime edged past Bijeshwori 3-2.

Similarly, in girls singles, Kajol Rauniyar saw off Sunita Lama of Prime 11-6, 11-4, 11-6 to take home the title. Ritij Joshi of AVM took home the title of U-10 boys singles beating Mount Valley´s Rujan Bikram Shahi 11-3, 11-9, 11-9. In other matches, U-16 boys singles title went to Krishna Thapa Magar.

Inter-school girl´s football from Thursday

KATHMANDU: The qualifying round matches of Coca Cola Cup Inter-school Girl´s Football Tournament for central region will begin from Thursday in the capital. The matches to be conducted in a knockout format will be held at the Chyasal ground. Altogether 24 teams are contesting in the two-week long tournament. Arunima Higher Secondary School will take on Apple Secondary in the curtain raiser while DAV will take on Shahid Sukra Higher Secondary School in another match.
