  Six-star Sirish shines in swimming

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: Sirish Gurung won three gold medals each in open category and age group events on Wednesday in the 17th National Open and Age Group Swimming Competition being held at Satdobato.

Gurung bagged gold in the 200m individual medley of open category clocking 2 minutes 37.84 seconds. Dilip Thapa Magar and Manish Chitrkar finished second and third in the event. In the 200m freestyle, Gurung clocked 2:19.50 minutes to take gold, while Miraj Prajapati and Rudra Karki secured the second and third positions respectively.

Gurung bagged his third gold in the 100m butterfly with a timing of 1:09.91 minutes. Jayant Prakash Gurung and Govinda Karki took silver and bronze respectively in the event.

Similarly, Gurung claimed gold in the 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke events of the boys´ 14-year age group.

In the girls´ section, Ceila Gurung bagged gold in the 100m backstroke with a timing of 1:31.18 minutes while Oshina Bharati and Jitzwelly Maharjan took silver and bronze respectively. Gurung also bagged gold in the 50m backstroke event of the girls´ 17-year age group with a timing of 43.16 seconds. Jitzwelly Maharjan and Sonira Bista bagged silver and bronze.

In the girls´ 100m freestyle Jitzwelly Maharjan bagged gold with a timing of 1:17.50 minutes. Oshina Bharati and Ceila Gurung bagged silver and bronze respectively. In the girls´ 17-year age group, Jitzwelly Maharjan won the 50m freestyle event while Ceila Gurung and Sonira Bista finished second and third respectively.

Prabesh Adhikari won gold in the 100m open breaststroke clocking 1:19.31 minutes while Banin Sensha Shrestha and Tika Ram Thapa settled for silver and bronze respectively. In the 50m open backstroke, Dilip Thapa Magar bagged gold with a timing of 35.17 seconds while Jayant Prakash Gurung and Sirish Gurung took silver and bronze respectively.

In the boys´ 100m freestyle of 17-year age group, Miraj Prajapati won gold while Manish Chitrakar and Jayant Prakash Gurung finished second and third. Manish Chitrakar clinched gold in the boys´ 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke events of the same age group.

Likewise, Sofia Shah (50m freestyle in girls´ 14-year age group), Oshina Bharati (50m butterfly in girls´ 12-year age group), Niharika Tuladhar (50m breaststroke in girls´ 12-year age group) and Pasang Sherpa (50m freestyle and backstroke in boys´ 12-year age group) claimed gold medals in their respective events.
