  Govt mulling e-governance

RSS

KATHMANDU, Aug. 9: With a view to increasing effectiveness of public services, the government has gradually implemented a policy for maximum use of information technology.

However, challenges lie ahead to meet the expected achievements, thanks to lack of sufficient technical human resources in the public bodies that are at the forefront in service delivery.

The government has stressed for e-governance to make the services delivered from the government bodies reliable, transparent and speedy.

The Prime Minister´s Office (PMO) has been encouraging the use of information technology in all the ministries and government bodies.

According to a report recently revealed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Nepal falls at 164th position in the use of information technology worldwide.

Joint secretary at the PMO Sharad Chandra Paudel told RSS that the government has given high priority to the e-governance to uplift the nation´s image at the international level.

Joint secretary Paudel said that most of the officials in the public bodies are capable of running e-mail and few were able to run Microsoft Word and Excel programmes.

Similarly, only half of the officials who are capable of running e-mail have a knowhow on Power Point.
