REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, Aug 9: Lt Gen Gaurav Shumsher Rana assumed his office as acting Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) of Nepal on Thursday.

Outgoing CoAS Gen Chhatra Man Singh Gurung handed over responsibility to Rana amid a function at the Nepal Army’s headquarters in the capital today.

Incumbent army chief Gurung is going on a month-long customary leave beginning Friday prior to his retirement.

Rana will take full charge as NA chief on September 9, when Gurung will retire. A letter to this effect has been dispatched to the defense ministry, said the NA´s directorate of public relations (DPR) in a press statement.
