KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Him Electronics is introducing four different models of Samsung LED television sets in the Nepali market this week.
The new television sets that range from 22-32 inch size are expected to be priced between Rs 32,000 and Rs 55,000.
The 22-inch Samsung UA22ES5000 LED will cost Rs 32,000, the 26-inch UA26EH4000 will be available at Rs 40,000, while the 32-inch variants EA32EH4000 and UA32EH4500 will cost Rs 53,000 and Rs 55,000 respectively.
Officials of Him Electronics - the authorized distributor of Samsung consumer appliances - are hopeful that the new range of LED televisions will be popular among Nepali consumers. “These sets are cheaper and user-friendly compared to LCD sets,” Binay Tripathi, deputy general manager of Him Electronics, said.
The domestic television market is still dominated by CRT television sets, enjoying market share of around 80 percent. “But people are gradually upgrading to LCD or LED sets, and the demand is growing accordingly,” said Tripathi. “Sales of LED sets is growing with every passing year, while the sales of CRT is slowing down.”
The LED technology was considered expensive when the LED sets started entering the market. But LED sets are becoming affordable as manufacturers are slashing prices. “Till a couple of years ago, a 32-inch LED TV used to cost Rs 100,000. Now the price has come down in range of Rs 40,000-50,000,” said Tripathi.
Sales in the LED segment is growing significantly compared to two years ago. “Annual sales figures at present stand at around 50,000 sets. It was just around 10,000 units a couple of year ago,” said Tripathi.
Tripathi is optimistic that the new models will strengthen Samsung´s presence in Nepal´s television market as Samsung LED TV sets are priced reasonably compared to other brands.
