KATHMANDU, Aug 12 : The two separate factions of Nepal Students Union (NSU) that had earlier announced to hold parallel general conventions have agreed to hold the union´s general convention from January 18.
The two sides agreed to patch up differences after the Nepali Congress (NC) Students´ Department Chief Nabindra Raj Joshi assured to address the grievances of the NSU faction close to Sher Bahadur Deuba.“We have agreed to fix a new date for the general convention,” said Rishikesh Jung Shah, a student leader close to the Deuba faction.
The venue for the three-day national convention, however, has not been fixed yet. “The party will decide the venue,” said Shah.
Deuba faction students have demanded that seniority of student leaders be given due consideration while making appointment s in the disciplinary and election committees. Likewise, they have also demanded proportional appointment of central representatives for the general convention from their side.
A meeting held with the leaders of both the factions at the residence of Joshi had agreed to include two members each in the discipline and election committees from the Deuba faction. Earlier, both the factions had three members each in the two committees. “We have also agreed to form a taskforce to address the issue of seniority,” Shah added.
