KATHMANDU, Aug 13: The government has amended the Arms and Ammunition Regulations in order to allow six more months for renewing licenses for arms possessed by private citizens.
A recent cabinet meeting amended the regulations in view of the fact that a large number of individuals who have obtained due permission from the government to possess personal arms have not renewed their licenses due to various reasons.
According to Ek Mani Koirala, deputy spokesperson at the Ministry of Home Affairs, those who have permission to possess personal arms can renew their licenses by paying Rs 2,000 per year.
Koirala said a large number of arms owners had not been able to renew their licenses during the conflict time as they had handed over their personal arms to concerned district administration offices, obeying an order from the government during the conflict time.
