KATHMANDU, Aug 15: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has decided to appoint Nepal´s Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the United Nations Gyan Chandra Acharya as Under Secretary General of the UN.
A formal announcement of the appointment will be made on Wednesday, confirmed sources familiar with the development.
Ban decided to pick Acharya from among six candidates vying for the post of UN Office of the High Representative for the Landlocked Least Developed Countries, Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS).
