KATHMANDU, Aug 15: The formation of a bloc named Federal Democratic Republican Alliance (FDRA) by various political parties thriving for ethnic identity-based federalism has been formally announced on Wednesday.
The announcement was made amid a press conference at Hotel Radisson, Lazimpat, in the capital. The alliance that comprises political parties currently both in and outside the government is led by UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
More than two dozen parties including UCPN (Maoist), Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP), TMDP-Nepal, Madhesi People’s Rights Forum –Democratic (MPRF-D), MPRF-R, Rastriya Janamukti Party, Sadhbhwana Party and Nepa: Rastriya Party are in the alliance.
Samajbadi Janata Party Chairman Prem Bahadur Singh has been picked as spokesperson of the party. The alliance has also unveiled its slogans and immediate programs and codes of conduct.
In a press statement, the alliance has underscored the need of an identity-based federal constitution in the country and promulgation of such a constitution from Constituent Assembly. It has further appealed to all to extend support to it and help forge consensus to diffuse the current political crisis.
