KATHMANDU, Aug. 16: The general convention of the newly formed CPN-Maoist is likely to defer by two months.

Earlier, the CPN-Maoist had fixed its general convention for December 16 after announcing its breakaway from the UCPN (Maoist). The party is planning to organize its first general during the second week of February 2013.

The UCPN (Maoist) has also announced its general convention from February 28, 2013.

Party politburo member Hari Bhakta Kandel said that the new date has not been fixed though discussions were held at the party´s ongoing politburo meeting regarding the date deferral.

He said, however, party leaders have opined to organize the general convention from either December 30 or from January 9, 2013.

Similarly, the politburo meeting of the party has formed an 11-member general convention main management committee under party secretary Netra Bikram Chand.

The meeting has been postponed till Friday morning.
