Alliance meant to secure PM's post for Dahal: Baidya

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Aug 17: CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya said Friday that UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal formed an alliance with Madhes-based parties and other fringe parties named Federal Democratic Republican Alliance only to secure the post of prime minister for himself.

Talking to journalists at his party´s headquarters at Buddhanagar, Baidya also claimed that the new alliance was not meant for resolving the political deadlock.

The Dahal-led alliance was announced on Wednesday.

"Dahal formed the alliance to extend the time of the UCPN (Maoist) in power and also to secure the post of prime minister for himself. It is clear that the alliance is not for resolving the political deadlock," said Baidya while receiving a memorandum from the Repoters Club.

He objected to Dahal´s alliance, claiming that they were not ´pro-federalists.´ He said that name is used just to cheat the people and Dahal had already abandoned identity-based federalism with the dissolution of the constituent assembly. "Dahal´s alliance is just for extending the time in power," he claimed.

Similarly, Baidya demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai immediately, stating that the Bhattarai government had failed to complete the peace and constitution-drafting process.

He advised the formation of a new government led by revolutionary forces to break the political deadlock. He said there was no possibility of a Nepali Congress or CPN(UML) government.

Baidya claimed that his party would lead the government if the revolutionary forces get a chance but he would not lead it himself, saying he would lead only after bringing about a ´new democratic system´.
