PM directs TU officials to appoint new dean at earliest

REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Saturday directed Tribhuvan University (TU) officials to  forge an agreement on the name of new dean at Institute of Medicine (IoM) at the earliest to end the ongoing agitations launched by the doctors.

PM Bhattarai directed vice chancellor, rectors and registrars at TU to appoint the dean today itself based on the consent of all the stake holders.

Expressing solidarity with Dr Govinda KC´s fast-unto-death, doctors at TUTH have been halting services at the hospital.

Doctors at medical institutions across the country have also announced to halt all medical services, except emergency, on Saturday and Sunday.

Dr KC, a senior professor at the IoM has been on fast-unto-death since Monday demanding that the appointments at the IoM be made on the basis of merit and seniority instead of political affiliations.

Meanwhile, the health of Dr KC, who is now on the sixth day of his fast-unto-death, has further deteriorated today. Doctors are preparing to admit him at the ICU for the treatmnet.
