KATHMANDU, Aug. 18: The process of appointing a Nepali labour attaché in South Korea has reached the final stages.

Spokesman at the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Budhhi Bahadur Khadka, said that the government is making preparations for filling the post which has remained vacant since the last four months as soon as possible.

He said the five Under-Secretaries at the Ministry of Labor and Employment have applied for the post. The Foreign Employment Act, 2064, requires that at least a gazetted level officer should be appointed the labor attaché in countries where there are more than 5,000 Nepali workers.

Over 14,000 Nepalis are currently working in South Korea under the Employment Permit System (EPS). Nepal has labor attaches in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Japan.
