Locals shut Pokhara to press for construction of int'l airport

POKHARA, Aug 19: Locals in Pokhara has shut down Pokhara bazaar protesting the delay in construction of an international level airport here, on Sunday. However, vehicles are plying on the road without any disruption.
The marketplaces, shops, academic institutions and industries have remained closed due to the banda called under the initiative of a committee formed by the agitating locals to press for construction of an international airport in the town.
The coordinator of the committee and the chairman of the Pokhara Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Krishna Mohan Shrestha, said that the banda has been called so that all town dwellers can participate in a protest protest program being organized in the afternoon.
"During the protest program, we will bring to light the elements who have been working against the construction of an international level airport in Pokhara,” Shrestha said.
