Govt committee for fixing new poll date in limbo

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Aug 21: The government-formed committee to work on a consensual poll date has not started work even after three weeks since its formation by the cabinet.

On August 1, the cabinet meeting had formed a three-member committee led by Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar to hold talks with other political parties to fix a new poll date after cancellation of the November 22 election by the Election Commission. The team comprises ministers Post Bahadur Bogati and Chandra Dev Joshi as members.

"The committee has not convened even a single meeting since its formation by the cabinet," a knowledgeable source told Republica when inquired about the progress of the committee, "The talk team was formed only for propaganda purpose."

"Neither the prime minister nor the government is serious about talks. They are just talking about the election only for propaganda," the source further said.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Bogati too conceded that the committee has not started works even after three weeks since its formation.

"Yes, there has been no progress," said Bogati, "Other parties are not willing to talk to this government."

Besides, the Deputy Prime Minister is not well and has not been able to call any meeting. He has been suffering from back problem.

Bogati said that the committee will start works once the deputy prime minister recovers from his back ailments.
