MoCTCA asks Pokhara locals to withdraw protest

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Aug 22: Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) has asked the pressure group of Pokhara locals formed to exert pressure on the government to initiate construction of international airport in the lake city to withdraw their all forms of protest.

"Strikes and other forms of protest will make negative impact in our tourism industry," a press statement issued by the ministry said, adding that the government was positive about building an international airport in Pokhara.

"The present delay in construction of the airport is because of some technical problems. I request all concerned stakeholders to understand the situation," tourism secretary Yagya Prasad Gautam said in the statement.

Pokhara is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country and the government is positive about developing infrastructure, the statement added.
