KATHMANDU, Aug 23: The 11th Dabur Special Jasmine Teej Festival 2012 kicked off on Thursday at Direction Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), Tripureshwar marking the onset of the festive season which is exclusively celebrated by women.
The organizer of the event Women´s Creation, a community-based non-profit organization working for the empowerment of women, inaugurated the event with children from Maiti Nepal playing orchestral music.
A special fashion show on the theme of Teej was also held on the occasion. A food festival is also being organized at the fair.
"Fundamentally, the event will provide platform for women entrepreneurs to share their creations and experiences," said Milu Thapa, president of Women´s Creation. She further added that visitors will get an opportunity to purchase their favorite items from under the same roof.
According to the organizer, 20 percent of the proceeds from the festival will go for women empowerment.
Thapa said the around 40,000 visitors is expected to attend the festival. Last year, the event had recorded a total transactions of Rs 10 million.
“We hope transactions will increase time, as we have added 10 more stalls this year,” added Thapa. The organizers are charging Rs 10 per visitor as entrance fee. The event will last till August 26.
