Maoist meet entrusts leaders with drafting political paper

KATHMANDU, Aug 23: A meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) office bearers on Thursday decided to divide responsibilities among leaders to draft the proposal to be presented at the upcoming unity general convention scheduled for February 7, 2013.
The meeting held at the party´s headquarters in Paris Danda decided to entrust the leaders with the responsibility of preparing the proposal for the meeting.
While Vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai has been given the responsibility to draft the party´s immediate policies and programs, another Vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha has been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing a draft on lessons learnt from international communist movement.
Likewise, Secretary Post Bahadur Bogati will write a draft proposal on ideological policy of the party and School Department chief Swanam Saathi will also write a part of the proposal, according the party´s Spokesperson Agni Sapkota.
The leaders also discussed forming publicity bureau and expanding the party´s secretariat. “The meeting scheduled for Friday will settle the issue related to proposal writing and expansion of the secretariat,” Sapkota said.
A full meeting of the general convention organizing committee had formed a 251-member organizing committee to help organize the unity convention to be held after the party split.
Meanwhile, in a separate meeting with former PLA commanders on Thursday, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai said that the integration process would resume soon as they are trying to forge consensus with other political parties on some of the contentious issues.
