Dahal hopeful of consensus among parties soon

SHER BAHADUR KC

BUTWAL, Aug 27: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Monday said that talks among the political parties would yield positive results and bail the country out of the current political crisis.

“Despite differences, we now have a conducive environment for consensus among parties,” said Dahal while speaking at a function organized by the Revolutionary Journalists Association in Butwal.

He said that agreement among the parties was possible within a few days if they received support for their consensus efforts from all quarters. Dahal was in Butwal to participate in an orientation program for the cadres of the party´s Awadh State Committee.

Stating that the talks between the three major parties on Monday was a step in the positive direction, Dahal said that he would hold separate talks with the main opposition parties -- CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC) -- to bring them on board.

Dahal added that he would work to forge consensus among the parties on the issues of election, consensus government and new constitution.

“The talks will focus on amending election laws for holding fresh election, forming a national consensus government and resolving differences between parties on contentious issues in constitution writing,” said Dahal.

He said that the Federal Democratic Republican Alliance (FDRA) between his party and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) was formed to bail the country out of the current political deadlock.

“The alliance will take initiaves to forge consensus among all the parties. If the NC and the UML create obstacles, we will also take to the streets,” Dahal said.
