  PM leaving for Iran to attend NAM Summit today

KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai is leaving for an official visit to Iran on Wednesday to participate in the 16th Summit of the Head of State or Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to be held in Tehran on August 30-31.

According to a press statement issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the prime minister will be addressing the plenary session of the Summit. He will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders from various NAM member countries on the sidelines of the Summit.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha left for Iran to address the plenary session of the Ministerial meeting on Monday. A three-member team led by Foreign Secretary Durga Prasad Bhattarai is already in Iran.

The 14-member delegation of the prime minister includes ambassador/permanent representative of Nepal to the UN, Gyan Chandra Acharya, Nepal´s ambassador to Pakistan Bharat Raj Paudyal, who is also concurrently accreditated to Iran, Secretary at the Prime Minister´s Office Jaya Mukunda Khanal and chief of Protocol Niranjan Man Singh Basnyat and the prime minister´s daughter Manushi Yami Bhattarai.

The theme of the 16th NAM Summit is “Lasting Peace through Joint Global Governance´. The Summit will be attended by the leaders of 120 NAM member countries, 17 observer countries and 10 observer organizations.
