KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Nepal will lock horns against Malaysia during its third match of the ICC World Cricket League Division 4 match at the STC on Thursday.
Having already won both matches played so far, a third victory in row over Malaysia will strengthen Nepal´s chances of making into final and qualifying for Division 3.
Meanwhile, Malaysia will be under pressure to avoid relegation to Division 5 if it looses against Nepal as it has lost both matches played previously.
Meanwhile, Malaysia´s coach Roy Luke Dais, also the former coach of Nepal who termed Nepal as his second home, will be in a an uneasy situation when the two sides meet each other.
Nepali cricket got numerous achievements under Dias´ guidance who looked after the team for nine years. All the trophies Nepal has achieved so far in men´s senior cricket came during his tenure.
Dias is often termed as ´god father of Nepali cricket´ in international cricket arena due to Nepal´s achievement under him. Dias enjoyed his long stay in Nepal and still assumes the country as his second home.
Dias has termed the defeat against Tanzania during Division 4 held two year earlier in Italy as most painful. Nepal´s ambition for Division 3 suffered a blow after Nepal was defeated by nine runs chasing target of 118 runs during round robin stage.
Dias, the Sri Lankan took over the Malaysian team some eight months ago and made it to the final of Division 5 in Singapore paving way for team to Division 4.
Under Dias guidance Nepal reached to the final of ACC Trophy two times. On the both occasion Nepal had defeated Malaysian during semifinal. The 2002 edition was special. On the very next year after his arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal defeated Malaysia by 25 runs.
In 2010 Nepal secured final berth for the second time. Nepal made 271\6 with unbeaten 97 runs from Sarad Vesawakar. Though Malaysia´s Suresh Navaratnam made 115 runs it was sort of 9 runs for victory.
Nepal has won four ACC U-19 Cups -- in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 -- all under the guidance of Dias. Nepal had defeated Malaysia in final in three separate occasion and once in the semifinal.
The match against between Nepal and Malaysia will be third match of Dias against Nepal. About a year ago Dias visited Nepal during ACC T20 Cup as the coach of Oman. Nepal-Oman encounter for a third place was his first match against Nepal. Dias´ side achieved success on that occasion.
Dias also achieved second victory against Nepal in March earlier this year as the coach of Malaysian team. Dias´ side beat Nepal by one wicket in the final of ACC U-16 Elite Cup. However, Nepal avenged the defeat against Malaysia two months ago defeating Dias´ side by 107 runs during Asia Cup.
The current Nepali senior team is the product of Dias. He knows almost every aspect of Nepali team. However, he is less informed about current Nepal´s coach Pubudu Dassanayake´s strategy who is believed to surprise the opponents by his decisions. Many were shocked with the inclusion of veteran cricketer Binod Das in the team.
Das was included in the playing set during first two matches of Division 4. Das claimed initial two wickets against Tanzania. Das is the same player whom Dais had called one of the best all rounder of Asia.
The match against Malaysia is important for us. We want to win that and make an easy way to final," Dassanayake said.
