(Update II)
PALPA, Sept 9:
At least 14 persons have been killed and around 20 injured when a passenger bus swerved off and fell some 200 meters down the road in Gulmi on Sunday morning.

Eleven passengers had died on the spot, while three more succumbed to their fatal injuries while being rushed to a hospital in Tansen, Palpa, police informed.

Around 15 of the injured have been brought to Mission Hospital, Tansen.

The bus (Lu 1 Kha 5583) en-route to Kathmandu from Tamghas, met with an accident in Lumcha, Hardineta VDC, Gulmi, Jitendra Kumar Basnet, police inspector at the District Police Office, Gulmi informed Republica.

According to an eye witness, the bus fell off the road when it attempted to give way to a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.

The deceased and the injured are yet to be identified.

Police along with locals have been carrying out the rescue operation.

However, police fear the number of deceased to go up as the bodies of the passengers of the ill-fated bus are still trapped on the incident site. “More bodies might have been stuck on the cliff, hence, search and rescue operation is still on,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police, Raj Kumar Baidabar.
