KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The government has approved the visit of a 14-member team led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha to the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly. A cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Thursday afternoon took a decision to this effect.
The delegation includes Foreign Secretary Durga Prasad Bhattarai, UN Division Chief Dipak Dhital, Under Secretary Ram Kaji Khadka, Deputy Chief of Protocol Ganesh Dhakal, DPM´s personal secretary Shankar Dulal, Prime Minister´s personal secretary Phanindra Devkota and NTV cameraman Rameshwar Shukla.
Cabinet sources said six other members, including Acting Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN Sewa Adhikari Lamsal, will join the delegation in New York.
Earlier, the finance ministry had expressed inability to release Rs 10.7 million budget as sought by the foreign ministry for the UNGA delegation, citing one-third budget situation.
Similarly, the cabinet meeting also decided to form a 19-member high-level commission under Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communications Sushil Ojha to recommend measures to make the media sector more inclusive.
