KHALANGA, Baitadi, Sept 19: Thirty-five houses at Gokuleshwar VDC-1 are at imminent risk from a landslide triggered by incessant rains since three days.

The Baitadi-Darchula section of the Mahakali Highway has been blocked by the landslide. Hundreds of families in the village had been displaced by the landslide before this and this time it has grown bigger, putting more houses at risk. Thirty-five houses are at imminent risk of the landslide.

Locals are living in perpetual fear of their houses being swept away by the landslide as it becomes bigger and bigger with continuous downpour. They have asked for assistance from the district administration for checking the landslide.

The Baitadi-Darchula road remains blocked by the deposition of the landslide debris on a 50-metre stretch of the road. Vehicles and passengers have been stranded due to this. Efforts are on the clear the road but it might take some more days to remove the landslide debris, according to the District Road Office.
