NC for talks on fresh polls

BAL KRISHNA ADHIKARI

KATHMANDU, Sept 19: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), concluding that the reinstatement of the Constituent Assembly is not possible in the existing situation, on Wednesday decided to begin talks with other political parties for fresh elections.

An informal meeting of the party leadership and other influential party leaders held at President Sushil Koirala’s residence in Maharajgunj today took a decision to this effect, NC leader Ram Sharan Mahat informed Republica Online after the meeting.

“The UCPN (Maoist) is only trying to prolong its stay in power in the name of reviving the CA,” Mahat said. “Therefore, we have decided to go for new elections,” he added. He also said his party now will not sit for talks with other parties on the reinstatement of CA.

“Now, dialogue will take place only for fresh polls, with the focus on clearing constitutional and legal hurdles for holding new elections,” Mahat said. He further said his party will now lay claim to the leadership of new government.
