Ex-king to visit Gandaki, Dhaulagiri
Former king Gyanedra Shah is set to embark on a 10-day ‘religious’ trip to Gandaki and Dhaulagiri zones beginning Thursday.
A committee comprising 1,280 members has been formed headed by pro-royalist Ganesh Bahadur Gurung to receive Shah. “We have found an increasing number of the former king’s supporters as he is more nationalist than political leaders.”
The former monarch is scheduled to visit various religious sites in Kaski, Myagdi, Parbat, Baglung, Tanahun and Syangja districts. He will stay in Fishtail Hotel, Pokhar, for five days during his trip.
Gurung also said he has been received threats from various persons and groups to quit his position as head of the committee. He has been charged with acting against federalism and secularism by accepting the role and being close to the former royal.
