  Happy Deals ties up with boxing

KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Happy Deals Private Limited on Wednesday signed a sponsorship deal with Nepal Boxing Association (NBA) for the Nationwide Senior Men´s and Women´s Boxing Championship to be held from October 2-6 in the capital.

As the chief sponsor, Happy Deals will provide Rs 300,000 for the event and the tournament will be named Happy Deals Nationwide Senior Men´s and Women´s Ranking Boxing Championship. Dolphin Education Consultancy has already signed a co-sponsorship deal worth Rs 100,000 for the event.

NBA General Secretary NBA Deepak Gurng and managing director of Happy Deals Khagendra Kandel signed the deal on behalf of their respective institutions.

According to Kandel, it was first time that Happy Deals was investing in sports as the chief sponsor. "We are partnering with the sports sector for the first time. We are optimistic that the sponsorship will contribute to the development of boxing in Nepal," Kandel said, adding that the company was proud to be associated with NBA and assured of continued support in future.

According to organizer NBA, about 150 male and female players will compete in the ranking tournament to be held for the first time. The event is being held as per the annual calendar of NBA at the Table Tennis Center, Lainchaur. The event will feature competitions for 17 gold medals -- 10 in men´s section and seven in women´s. The expected cost of the event is Rs 600,000.

NBA President Rajiv Shrestha said, "The ranking tournament will be fruitful for the preparation of upcoming South Asian Games (SAG) as well." According to Shrestha, NBA is also planning to give opportunity to players to participate in international tournaments on the basis of their rankings.
