SYANGJA, Sept 23: Various sister organizations of the UCPN (Maoist) have enforced a half-day Syangja banda on Sunday to disrupt ex-king Gyanendra Shah’s planned religious visit to the district.
The former monarch is scheduled to visit Dhaneshwor Mahadev temple in Putalibazaar, in the district, today. Accusing ex-king Shah of inciting people, six different sister organizations of the party has called today’s banda starting from 6 am to 12 at noon.
However, Jamuna Sherchan, coordinator of the organizing committee informed that Shah’s visit will go ahead as per schedule despite the banda.
“As a common Nepali national, former king is free to travel anywhere in the country and his trip will not be cancelled despite the protest,” Sherchan further argued.
A mix effect of the banda has been experienced in the district. Transportation has been affected, while marketplaces have remained opened in the district.
