Teachers attendance up as DEO acts tough

JANAK KC

JAJARKOT, Sept 24: The attendance of teachers in schools of Jajarkot has seen a remarkable progress after the District Education Office (DEO) decided to act tough on them.

In its crackdown against errant teachers, the DEO had deducted Rs 1,300,000 from the salary of 150 teachers who did not regularly take classes.

According to District Education Office Girman Thapa, the office began monitoring schools in the district after receiving complaints that most of the teachers withdrew their salaries but did not regularly take classes. “We have seen positive results after we began the campaign since April last year,” said Thapa.

He said the teams deployed to monitor the schools have also been verifying the exact number of students enrolled as most of the schools have lower enrollment than shown in their registers.

“Schools have created false records so that they can claim more grants from the government. We will take action against such schools,” he said.
Earlier, the schools were found to have created records of around 10, 000 fake students.

“This revelation was enough for us to take the matter seriously,” said Thapa.
