Infant dies immediately after being vaccinated

REPUBLICA

DHANGADHI, Sept 24: A nine-month-old baby died immediately after being administered with a DPT and Polio vaccine in Budhiganga VDC of Bajura district on Monday.

The incident came just one month after four infants died within 24 hours of being vaccinated against measles and other infectious diseases in the neighboring Doti district.

According to Parma Saud, a resident of Budhiganga VDC-1, her baby, Sujan, died within one hour of being vaccinated by a local health worker.

"He died soon after being vaccinated," claimed Saud. "Before that he was fine."

According to Bibhu Ghimire, chief of District Public Health Office (DPHO) of Bajura, the child could have died of other illness instead of vaccination.

"Our vaccines have no flaws," he claimed. According to Parma, her baby was suffering from pneumonia one week ago but was absolutely healthy before being vaccinated.
